Social Studies Field Trip

Third Graders went on their third and final South Carolina Study field trip this week and got the opportunity to sit in the twelve seats of South Carolina’s council members. Students were hopeful to meet the mayor, but were excited to learn that he was busy after announcing his bid for re-election this week. Our guide shared many interesting stories with students about South Carolina history, but really blew us away with stories about the art and architecture of the room we were so fortunate to sit in!

Writing

Students ended 2018 by writing persuasive letters to people in their lives requesting things they were passionate about. Our class used luscious language to convince their readers of so many things, from adopting a puppy to purchasing new playground equipment. Students have been inspired by the change they made by writing a letter to Ms. Franci requesting an extra PJ day. Third Graders ended the week by presenting their persuasive letters to the class.

Because Of Winn-Dixie

This week, Third Grade finished our latest Read Aloud novel, Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. Students laughed and fell in love with our novel’s protagonists, Opal and Winn-Dixie. Third Graders have had a blast using the story to study the characters and analyze the growth of Opal as she navigates through her new town, following the loss of her mother. We have been delighted to hear students’ recognition of the take-away lessons of Opal and her dog friend, including forgiveness and kindness.
