Garden and Grow

Plant Life

Our 2nd and 3rd Grade classes teamed up this week to prepare and plant our shared class planter box. We learned about seasons, soil, critters, and flowers. While some gardeners were busy tilling the land and clearing the weeds, our next group of friends came in and planted our flowers and plants. We have azaleas, snapdragons, and chrysanthemums. We even let our turtles stretch their legs there at recess!!

Vocabulary Kickoff

Students kicked off our vocabulary unit on Tuesday with a hilarious book titled Dear Mrs. Larue. Ike, the pet dog, is sent to obedience school. Students must be persistent when studying our new words because they are quite tough. Second graders should not neglect their homework duties next week if they intend to keep up. Second grade is hard (a common misconception)! Each week we will be learning 6 new vocabulary words to study and use as much as possible. Look forward to getting these sent home in your child’s take-home folder on Mondays.

 Money in the Bank

Our friends in Second Grade are grasping the concepts of coin and bill value. We’ve practiced counting by 5s, 10s, 50s, and even 100s to help us learn to count and add money. In math centers this week, we rubbed coins with pencils to make fossil imprints in our notebooks. See if your child can help sort money or count what’s in your wallet.
