Writing

Third Graders were so excited this week to complete a persuasive letter to Ms. Franci. Students discussed and decided to request an additional Pajama Day this school year. Third Graders individually worked on their own persuasive letters and then joined forces to create one final draft to deliver to Ms. Franci. Students used solid reasoning, humor, and even flattery to deliver their point and are so excited to hear back from Ms. Franci!

Social Studies

This week, students began a new unit in Social Studies on South Carolina history. Students started the unit by observing world maps to find Charleston, and eventually looking at a state map to discover all of the bodies of water and cities there are in the state. Students enjoyed decoding and using color to label parts of our state maps.

Read Aloud

Third Grade began our next read aloud this week, Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. The story follows a young girl, Opal, as she meets and takes in a, “big, ugly, suffering dog with a sterling sense of humor”, Winn-Dixie. Students have loved listening to the hilarious adventures of the dynamic duo.
