Writers on the Storm

Writing Workshop

Second Grade has been writing all week about their experiences with hurricanes, floods, and evacuations. This week we introduced the Second Grade editing checklist. Our writers are learning the habits of good proofreading and writing by practicing editing their own stories. Students are then presenting their stories and practicing their public speaking skills during share time.

Handwriting Without Tears

There’s no crying in handwriting at The Cooper School! Handwriting is practiced throughout the week, both during specific handwriting time and during other disciplines. We are a few pages deep into our workbook and their strokes are coming along swimmingly! Our goal is to always use our nicest, neatest, most legible handwriting in the classroom. We have also been using our handwriting skills as we practice our grammar. The past few weeks we have been hammering home always starting with a capital letter and using the appropriate punctuation at the end of a sentence.

Morning Meeting

Beginning each day with Morning Meeting brings us closer together and gives everyone a glimpse into their classmates’ lives. This week we played an amusing counting sequencing game called, “Who’s got my lizard?” Students also shared stories about Hurricane Irma with their reading buddies and some even shared with the class. Starting our day with greetings and group games gets everyone awake and in the mood for learning!!
