4th Grade Critical Thinkers!

Reading

For the next couple of weeks, 4th graders will be reviewing all of the reading comprehension and critical thinking skills they’ve learned over the school year to prepare them for the ERB test at the end of the year. They’re getting practice with scanning text and questions before reading passages, then determining which questions need background information before answering.

Writing

Our 4th grade writers are starting their Literary Essay unit! This is where they will read a fiction story of their choice and create an argument about why the author wrote the book. They will employ skills we’ve learned throughout the year such as searching for evidence within a text and making a claim about the plot and its relation to the author.

Word Work

We have just a one more week of Spelling and Vocabulary before we begin reviewing important concepts of Grammar. This will include knowing how to identify proper nouns for capitalization and understanding when and where specific forms of punctuation should be used.
