Fun in First Grade

Math

In math, we are learning strategies to solve subtraction problems such as counting on or counting back with a number path and drawing pictures.  Students used a life-sized number path to help them solve math problems involving subtraction.

Writing

Students are learning how to be teachers!  This week we focused on sharing what we know about a topic using a teaching voice, planning a teaching story, and thinking about our “students” when we write our teaching books.  Some topics students are teaching us about are dinosaurs, cats, babies, and growing a plant!

Science Fun

This week in Science our scholars created diagrams of the life cycle of a mealworm and identified which stages their mealworms are in.  Most students have pupae, and some even have beetles!  We also created insect masks.  Students did an amazing job bringing insects to life with their masks!
