How To Be A Kindergartener

How-To Books
We spent a lot of time this week working on building our How-To books, as Kindergarteners explained all of the things that they feel they’ve mastered. Students walked us step-by-step through how to do all kinds of things, from how to make and wrap a gift to taking care of a cat. Students started by illustrating their ideas, and built onto those by stretching out the sounds of the words and labeling their photos. Once students felt like they were finished, they looked back at their books to make sure they hadn’t missed any steps along the way! We’re not sure How-To get any more excited about all of the fantastic writing and thinking going on in our classroom.

Shapes in Structures
This week, students spent time looking at different buildings for all of the shapes used in their construction. Students were able to point out examples of circles, squares, triangles, rectangles, and even some less expected shapes (like diamonds!). They were excited to find these shapes in frames, doors, windows, roofing, and more. Students could not wait to put their observations to work as they were given the opportunity to construct their own shapes and buildings using popsicle sticks and Play-Doh!

The Wish Tree
Kindergarteners were very excited this week for our Mystery Reader who brought along a new class favorite read aloud, The Wish Tree. This beautiful book told the story of a young boy who is searching for a wishing tree and finds it only because he believes. Students celebrated by creating our own Wish Tree, with branches filled with KinderWishes!
