A Busy, Busy Week!

October 7-11

We hope you will enjoy hearing about the many joyous learning experiences your young scholars had this week!  Ask your student about our live ants moving into their habitat! Have a lovely and restful long weekend.

Writing Workshop

This week, each student selected an original, personal small moment story to publish.  First Grade authors used editing checklists to put the final touches on their stories. In the very near future, we will have a visit from 3rd Grade students who will share their small moment stories from when they were in 1st Grade!

Reading

Our vocabulary this week was built from the book Mice Make Trouble.  Our Reading Workshop time included a celebration of the conclusion of Unit One. The students made “hard hats” to wear and to show how they have built good reading habits! We are excited about our next unit which places emphasis on the children being Word Detectives. Our Reading companion, Rasheed the lion (a stuffed animal), is dressed as Sherlock Holmes for this unit.

Math

The scholars are carefully working on doubles facts and doubles plus one as the concept this week.  We are looking for all the wonderful patterns that can be found in Math! We came to the middle of our first Math Module and were assessed Friday of this week on their understanding of  their mathematics thus far.
