A Busy Week in Second Grade!

Realistic Fiction

This week we began a fun new unit in writing. Students are planning and brainstorming ideas to begin writing a realistic fiction story. Second graders have complete control over their inspiration and creativity in their fiction pieces. Before writing begins students plan out their entire story, including characters, settings, and all of the important details that go into writing a story. This is a great opportunity to use all the skills they have learned this year, and be creative with their storytelling.

Birds in our Classroom

In centers, students are creating origami birds that will be displayed in our classroom. This aligns with our importance of learning hand motor skills as well as the bird study. Students used different colorful paper to create many bird origami designs in all different patterns. Next, students will use what they know about balance and create a mobile for the birds to hang from. These beautiful birds will be on display in the classroom almost as if they are in flight.

Happy Mother’s Day

This week second graders have been working so hard on creative and beautiful cards for mothers day! Students diligently work to make sure their cards are filled with love and creativity to show their moms how much they love them. Using pom poms and working on hand motor skills, students decorated their cards. Students are getting very eager for Mother’s day and are excited to share their cards!
