A Good Start!

Week of January 6-10

One Word

We jumped into the New Year excitedly, launching the annual school-wide one word campaign.  Each faculty member and student chose one word that will usher us into our new year and be our personal focus for the next twelve months.  Some First Grade choices included creative, helpful, kindness, responsibility, and helpful. We hope you, too, will join us in choosing one word!

Mapping the World

In Social Studies, we began our study of the continent of Australia!  In this important study students are learning cardinal directions, map navigation, and the differences in maps and globes.  They are working on identifying on a map or a globe all of the continents and the four major oceans. Our scholars will also research the animals and people of this fascinating continent!

Publishing Celebration

As the First Graders completed a fiction unit in reading, they invited the Kindergarten students to our classroom so that we could share with them the books we had read!  Students were paired with the kindergarten children, chose a book from their first grade reading book bags, and read to their counterpart. They enjoyed the experience and their partner’s company as well!
