The Cooper School Daily

Africa Day and Publishing Party!

This week your mathematicians began their review of the partial quotients division algorithm.  This is a strategy they learned last year, and this week they worked to identify patterns in the algorithm that would allow to solve more quickly.  As an extra, I also taught them the traditional long division algorithm.  This will prepare them for their middle school math classes.  They had a blast learning this algorithm and can’t wait to continue practicing long division!

Publishing Party

This week, your talented authors shared their memoirs during their first Publishing Party of the year.  I was blown away by their ability to dig deep and allow themselves to be vulnerable as writers.  Some memoirs were in an essay style, some in a narrative style, and some were poetic.  Thank you for being a part of this special celebration!

Social Studies

As we wrapped up our study of Africa this week, each student completed their final project of making culture cards. A culture card is a card that has a fact about the culture of the Tuareg on one side and an image to match that fact on the other side. Each student selected 5 facts from their ongoing research. They were asked to include a fact about food, shelter, clothing, transportation, and culture
