Week of November 11-15
Insect Museum Presentation
On Wednesday, our First Grade Entomologists presented their Insect Museum to parents and family members. This was a culmination of a study that began about 6 weeks ago. In that time, our scholars collected insect specimens, observed mealworms, ants in an ant farm, raised and released butterflies, researched an insect of their choosing using books and internet resources, wrote small moment stories about insects, learned about and labeled the body parts of ants and the parts of an ant hill, created watercolor and pastel paintings of insects, created ceramic models of their insects, and made a GIANT papier-mache’ model of a caterpillar~~the Very Hungry Caterpillar to be exact, and wrote and wrote and wrote! Amazing!!
Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day
The students were overjoyed to have their special guests on Monday! Our guests turned out in force and proudly listened to their choir concert. Post-concert, our special guests joined us in the classroom for four different activities. The guests read with their unique child and had interviews with them. They drew pictures of each other and did math activities together. A lovely morning was shared by the students’ and their most welcome guests.
A Trip to the Gym
On the second day of all our grades sharing time and activities with grandparents and special friends, Tuesday, First Grade had an exciting visit along with Second Grade to the St. Andrews Family Fitness Center. The students rotated through a variety of physical activities including obstacle courses, ball handling skills, bowling, and snack time! It was an enjoyable change of pace for our hard-working students!
