Amazing Third Graders !!

This week in Reading we started our unit on Asian folktales! We learned the common characteristics of folklore and dove deeper into Asian folklore. We have learned to identify the setting in a folklore story and have been paying close attention to the characters in our stories. Readers used the thinking job, “What lesson/moral does this story teach me?” and, “What natural event does this explain?” in all of the new Asian folktales that we are reading.

Social Studies

Students continued their Asia study this week learning about how mountains are made. Scholars read through books and gathered information about mountains. Students were so excited to learn that mountains are formed by movement in the tectonic plates in lots of different ways. Our Third Grade scholars also learned that Asia is comprised of 48 countries and were able to name some of them.

Our scholars have been working so hard in math these last couple of weeks. On Wednesday our scholars took their end of the unit assessment. This unit focused on addition and subtraction within 1,000, Our scholars were so proud to complete this unit and are happy to continue on to division.
