Ants, & a Beautiful Oops!!!!!

Looking deeper at our Ants!

Once again, our students got up close and personal with bugs and insects. They spent time observing the busy ants in our ant farm and documenting in their science journals the life cycle of ants! Additionally, they drew pictures of the ants in their gel habitat and illustrated them. The gel in their habitat was actually developed by NASA. Ants are fascinating! It is estimated that there are 1 million ants for every human in our world!

 Beautiful Oops!

To kick off our study of optimism, students read Beautiful Oops! by Barney Saltzberg and discussed that we can turn our mistakes into something beautiful.  Students then received a piece of paper that had scribbles or was ripped.  They turned the “oops” into something creative and beautiful!

Writing

Our authors are working on revising and editing their Small Moment stories.  We have been writing Small Moment stories since the beginning of the school year, and we have learned so many writing techniques to bring our Small Moment stories to life!  After writing several stories, students chose one to refine using these techniques.  We will be publishing our books and celebrating all of our authors’ hard work next week!
