Art Walk, Third Grade Book Clubs and More Visiting Experts

Art Walk 2017

Today The Cooper School opened its doors to celebrate the awesome collection of artwork created by students this year. Families joined their children to stroll the campus, which has been transformed into one giant art gallery, showcasing student artwork. Students were thrilled to escort their families through the school pointing out their masterpieces and admiring the artwork created by their friends. Families enjoyed reading unique Artists Statements thoughtfully crafted by these brave young artists. Bravo to all of the beautiful artists and their amazing art teacher, Mrs. Kerry Bevers!

Book Clubs

This week in Reading Workshop, Third Grade scholars launched a new series study. These young readers have formed three book clubs and are each diving into different books in a series. Scholars were thrilled to be reading The Time Warp Trio, The Boxcar Children, and Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events. Each group decided how many pages they need to read in order to finish their book in a week. This week, they read the amount of pages they agreed upon and held daily discussions about their reading. Students practiced using discussion markers such as, “I agree with you because,” or, “I disagree with you because,” to share their ideas. They are thrilled to begin book 2 in each of their book clubs next week!

Exploring Culture Through Music

Third and Fourth Graders enjoyed having a very special visiting expert this week. Our guest came to teach and share about instruments and relics from all over Asia. Daniel Scruggs brought his extensive knowledge along with a unique variety of instruments, and explained their origins to a captivated audience. Our visiting expert inspired these young minds to think beyond the walls of their school and to be curious about the world. Ask your Third Grader what they enjoyed the most about our most recent visiting expert!
