Storms can’t stop us!

Everyone has done a great job handling and preparing themselves for a hectic week with storms looming over us. We hope everyone stays safe and completes all work that has been assigned over the google document that has been sent by the middle school staff. All E-learning will be sent to parents emails, also the link to the work will be on all math google classrooms. As we move into October, please check the school calendar for all of the upcoming events during this month.

Math:

This week, we continued comparing ratios and took a quiz on Wednesday. Afterwards, we began exploring scale and how it applies to ratios. Next week, we’ll continue studying speed, unit price, and begin exploring percentages.

ELA:

This week, 6th grade writers developed more personal stories based on various places and times in their lives. We then selected a “favorite” and began the process of revisions. We learned that advanced writers spend lots of time revising. Writers then challenged themselves to expand single sentences from their stories into descriptive paragraphs.

Next week, we will finish revisions and edits on our first personal essays. 6th graders will move into their first vocabulary unit of the year.

Social Studies:

Sixth graders did a fantastic job on their Mesopotamian test and can do corrections on any of the multiple choice questions they got wrong. We are now learning about ancient Egypt and began with geography and have moved into their ancient gods. Next week they will begin their first group project which involves learning about a specific god and creating a life sized poster of the god their group chooses. I am looking forward to this project!

Science:

This week, sixth graders learned about climate change! They learned how the Earth’s greenhouse effect keeps our planet at the appropriate temperature, but that the increase in greenhouse gasses is impacting the global temperature. They have chosen solutions that can reduce carbon emissions and have begun researching their topics. Next week, the sixth graders will learn about convection currents and heat transfers.
