Storms can’t stop us!
Everyone has done a great job handling and preparing themselves for a hectic week with storms looming over us. We hope everyone stays safe and completes all work that has been assigned over the google document that has been sent by the middle school staff. All E-learning will be sent to parents emails, also the link to the work will be on all math google classrooms. As we move into October, please check the school calendar for all of the upcoming events during this month.

Math:
This week, we continued to study scale and took a short mid-unit assessment on Thursday. Afterwards, we moved into dilations and how to use them to create scaled copies. Next week, we’ll use our knowledge of dilations, similar figures, and angles to analyze slope on a coordinate plane.
ELA:
7th grade reviewed figurative language together this week and unpacked the rich troves of figurative language found in Call of the Wild. We analyzed not only the language’s meaning, but also its impact on intensifying conflict and tone in the story. 7th graders also spent the week preparing for their first grammar test on subject / predicate variations, direct objects, and subject complements.
Next week, 7th grade will launch their conflict trading card project as they continue their reading and begin their first unit of vocabulary.
Social Studies:
Seventh grade began our work on Mesoamerican culture groups. We began learning about the Aztecs and the beginnings of culture groups in Mexico. This study relates to our culture groups of North America and will continue to relate to present day Mexican culture and lifestyle. We will move into the Mayans and Nahutl people next week, connecting all these cultures and how they still influence Mexico today.
Science:
Seventh graders learned about the importance of light in astronomy this week. They used spectroscopes to see how visible light is broken into the rainbow. They learned about the electromagnetic spectrum and how different types of waves are all around us, with different wavelengths. They also learned about constellations and how they are a human construct that has had importance in many cultures throughout history. Next week, they will continue to work on their Ted Talks about space exploration.
