Next week will be spook-tacular!
The entire middle school has been working hard preparing for the Halloween Carnival next Thursday. We are so proud of the effort they have put into their individual roles. I am sure you are looking forward to next week as much as they are! Any good costume ideas for parents?!?
We also as a staff really enjoyed the talent show the spirit club put on for the middle school this Thursday. There were so many students who were brave enough to show us their talents and they all did a wonderful job! Hopefully they bring that same positive energy and enthusiasm to the carnival next week!

Math:
This week, we explored balancing equations to help us solve different types of one and two step equations. Next week is a short week due to the Halloween Carnival and the Teacher Work Day, so we’ll begin evaluating equations with positive and negative numbers, and using those to solve word problems.
ELA:
7th grade writers worked hard on literary essays based on self-selected novels this week, which will be the first chapter of their genre study zines. We took a grammar test on Thursday, so be sure to ask your student about their grade!
Next week, writers will complete their essays and move on to creating glossary guides about the genre their self-selected novel belongs to. They will also begin developing a visual chapter to explain their genre, as well! We will begin unit 2 of vocabulary work with a test on 11/7.
Social Studies:
Seventh grade did a fantastic job on the unit on Latin and South American culture groups. We learned a lot about its importance to world history and the true impact these cultures still have on the world today. Next week we will be starting our next unit on European expansion and their arrival in the new world. This will include a project on these countries and the people involved in the colonization of the new world.
Science:
Seventh graders did a great job presenting their Ted Talks this week! They worked hard on keeping it professional and entertaining. Well done!
They will finish up their astronomy unit by reading a graphic novel called Human Spaceflight: Rockets and Rivalry. We will have a book discussion on it next week before Halloween. Our next unit will be Populations and Ecosystems. They will learn about and visit the various ecosystems here in Charleston.
A note from our Development Coordinator:
