Next week will be spook-tacular!

The entire middle school has been working hard preparing for the Halloween Carnival next Thursday. We are so proud of the effort they have put into their individual roles. I am sure you are looking forward to next week as much as they are! Any good costume ideas for parents?!?

We also as a staff really enjoyed the talent show the spirit club put on for the middle school this Thursday. There were so many students who were brave enough to show us their talents and they all did a wonderful job! Hopefully they bring that same positive energy and enthusiasm to the carnival next week!

Math:

This week in Algebra 1, we took our test on equations, inequalities, and systems before moving on to unit three, focusing on two-variable statistics. Next week is a short week due to the Halloween Carnival and the Teacher Work Day, so we’ll spend a bit of time looking for relationships between categorical and numerical data before finding and analyzing lines of best fit.

ELA:

8th grade photographic writers studied elements of photography this week like perspective, extreme close-ups, wide angles, and extraordinary subject matter. This resulted in a variety of short writing challenges that sought to apply these concepts to our narratives. We took a grammar test on 10/25, so be sure to ask about their grades!

Next week, photographers/writers will study more photography concepts and begin developing their pieces for their exhibit on 11/7. We will begin unit 2 of vocabulary with a test on 11/8.

Social Studies:

The eighth grade has done a great job this week with their revolutions project as well as preparing for their test. They worked hard and it showed on how well the projects came out. We have learned a lot about the effects of revolutions as well and their impacts, which are still felt today. We are moving into the 1800’s now and will be learning about the rise of nationalism and how it helped lead to wars, alliances and the reshaping of what the world actually looks like from before that time period and  how it even is changing today.

Science:

Eighth graders worked diligently on their Rube Goldberg machines this week. There are mousetrap contraptions all over the classroom! The book shelf has become a platform for turning the lights out. The shelves on the back wall are being used to water a plant. The computer stand is being used to throw trash away and there is even a cup of tea being made. Next week, the eighth graders will begin working on their presentations that explain the physics behind their contraptions.
