4th Grade is Energized and Ready!

The 4th graders came back refreshed and energized after a well needed fall break!

What’s a tree’s favorite song in Fall? “Don’t Stop  Be-Leafin.”🤣😂

Reading

This week, the 4th graders continued to read their selected mystery books in their reading book clubs. They read about two chapters each day, and while reading, they are looking for important details and clues. They use the clues and details to discover who the suspects are within the story. Within their clubs, they discuss the suspects, provide evidence of the suspect, and lastly, discuss the motive of the suspects. The mystery books and clubs are a great way to encourage students to think critically, improve close reading skills, and present mysteries that students can solve together.

Social Studies

This week in social studies, the 4th graders continued to discuss economics. They learned about market, command, mixed, and traditional economies. 4th graders understand that mixed economies are the most common in the world.  They also know that profit indicates that a business is surviving and thriving by generating more value than the total cost. This week, they also asked themselves three economic questions, which are,

1.What should be produced?

2. How is it produced?

3. Who is it produced for?

One of the key takeaways from this week was supply and demand. The 4th graders learned that supply and demand are crucial in economics because they determine the price of a good or service in a market and the quantities produced and consumed.

“I would tell you an economics joke but there’s not enough DEMAND!”😂

Physical Education (PE)

This week in PE, the 4th graders started learning about basketball fundamentals. The five skills they will learn over the next four weeks are dribbling, shooting, defense, passing and rebounding. The focal point for this week was dribbling. The students practiced dribbling with their left and right hands while also being able to do interchangeable dribbling.

They practiced dribbling through cones and worked together to see whose team would finish first, getting everyone through them. The 4th graders understand that to develop their basketball skills, they must use specific drills and exercises,  use proper technique, and be consistent while practicing.

The most important thing they learned is to take feedback from peers and the teacher to help improve their performance.
