It’s been another wonderful week in the fourth grade celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, learning and growing!
Writing
After finishing their class novel reading of Heartbeat, our young poets have been working hard to craft their own meaningful poetry! This week, students have been weaving similes and metaphors into their poetry. Students have been analyzing other great works of poetry, looking to find these hidden meanings and understanding the power of choosing words intentionally and carefully. Students have also been reflecting on their own lives, thoughts and feelings to produce poetry with figurative language that is meaningful to them and their reader. We are so proud of their hard work and can’t wait to see their finished poems!
Science
Fourth graders have continued investigating the question, “How do rocks and fossils tell us about the way Earth has changed over time?” Through hands-on activities, students have explored how sedimentary rock forms, layers, and compacts into the fossils we find today. They have also begun analyzing fossils and considering how the environment affects the types of fossils found in different areas. Some students have even brought in fossils from home to contribute to our fossil garden! Through careful examination, they are developing their ability to make observations, connections, and inferences about where and how their fossils were formed and discovered.
Community
Our fourth graders have been making strides to help maintain and improve area’s our TCS community uses! Not only has the class been diligently completing their backyard clean up to ensure the community spaces are well taken care of clean for our community. Additionally, the fourth grade class is ecstatic to announce that the class is taking over the greenhouse! Our students have been working hard to prepare the greenhouse for our hydroponic growing towers to grow a multitude of fresh vegetables and plants! The class is so excited to get to watch their hard work blossom this spring!
