6th Grade Newsletter

It’s the final countdown!

Now that we are moving into the final trimester, it is time to start looking ahead to all the wonderful things going on here at The Cooper School. Each month has so much going on, not only here, but I am sure for you at home as well. From the Gala to class trips, this trimester is going to fly by, so we need to make sure we keep our eye on the prize, which is finishing the school year strong. One of the best ways we can ensure that this school year ends on a positive note is keeping up communication, and ensuring that every student knows what they need to accomplish. I remember this time as a middle schooler, with projects, sports and trips and something always slipped through the cracks. With communication I am confident that everyone can finish the 2025 school year strong and go into summer break on a high note!

Math:

This week, 6th graders extended their mastery of percentages to include percent error and error intervals. We also began reviewing for our unit 6 test, which is on March 10th. Next week, after our assessment, we’ll take the ERB Milestone on Tuesday and then dive into unit 7 on Wednesday by exploring and comparing negative rational numbers.

ELA:

6th grade continued to study Romeo and Juliet alongside various film and stage adaptations. Poets also began their sonnets! We counted syllables and planned rhyme schemes, aiming to complete the first half of our poem – due 3/21. Additionally, students studied punctuation and proofreading in grammar, taking their test on Thursday – so be sure to look out for those grades.

Next week, 6th grade will finish Romeo and Juliet, discussing the thematics behind the tragedy. Poets will also aim to finish their sonnets. Students will begin a new vocabulary unit with a test planned for 3/20.

Social Studies:

Sixth graders enjoyed Bhuddist meditation as well as some true Indian cuisine this week! They did a great job with this unit and their quiz will be next Friday, the 14th. We are also getting ready for a field trip to an actual Buddhist monastery! Once we are done with Buddhism we will be moving on to the Ancient Greeks, a fun unit with a lot of fun projects!

Science:

The sixth graders wrapped up their biomimicry projects beautifully this week! I was very proud of the finished products! They completed their models and presentation slides diligently, professionally, and creatively. When we return back to school on Monday, we will begin our new unit on Human Systems.
