THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!
With only one week of school left before we go on break, I am sure everyone is counting down the days until they can relax and enjoy time with their friends and family. Everyone looks forward to this time to be able to enjoy the holiday season and look back and reflect on the year. I look forward to next year, turning the page to 2025 and being able to continue on with a great school year. During this time, I hope everyone is safe in their travels and truly enjoys these two weeks. With only one week of school left, the countdown has definitely begun in middle school and we all look forward to a wonderful end to 2024 and a festive school week to end the year!

Math:
This week, we dove into unit 4 which introduces variables, expressions and equations. We explored diagrams that help us understand how to write and solve expressions and equations! Next week, we’ll finish off strong before break by exploring more about equations and expressions, and taking a quiz on Wednesday 12/18.
ELA:
This week, 6th graders edited their essays according to grade level standards! We reflected on the process and shared some of our best analytical moments with partners. Students also had their vocabulary test today – so be on the lookout for those grades.
Next week, 6th graders will begin a nonfiction reading unit where they explore longform nonfiction novels. We will start a grammar unit, but will not test until well after break on 1/15.
Social Studies:
Sixth grade did a great job on their test on ancient China and now have begun a mini unit on ancient Japan. This is a short unit showing the similarities and differences between them and China and a great small unit to finish up the school year. On our last day together I have planned a fun day of holiday festivities to end the year.
Science:
The sixth graders learned about microscopes this week. They learned about the parts, how to use one, and how to make a wet and dry mount to observe different specimens. They collected different things they wanted to see on a microscopic level to practice their new skills. They also finished the graphic novel about plagues. Next week, they will continue to use the microscopes to learn about living things that we cannot see with the naked eye.
Important Dates:
December 20 – Holiday Extravaganza & PJ Day (½ Day – 11:30 Dismissal)
December 21-January 6 – Winter Break (return on Tuesday, January 7)
