All About Animals

On Thursday, our first graders enjoyed an exciting and educational field trip to the Charleston Museum. Scholars had the opportunity to explore the museum while learning all about the Lowcountry Safari and animals from A to Z. This field trip tied in perfectly with our Arctic study, helping scholars make connections between animals in different habitats.Students were amazed to see real animal relics and artifacts from many years ago and learned how animals have changed over time. We discussed the similarities and differences among animals and how they adapt to their environments. This hands-on learning experience brought our classroom studies to life and helped deepen our understanding of the animal world. Be sure to ask your scholar all about our fun and memorable trip to the Charleston Museum!

Grammar Power

This week, we took a deep dive into our grammar toolbox with a strong focus on verbs and how they show action. Scholars worked hard to identify different types of verbs and discussed how verbs help make sentences more interesting and meaningful. As a class, we explored action words in stories and everyday language, then applied our learning by writing our own sentences filled with lots of exciting actions. Scholars did a wonderful job sharing their ideas and using verbs correctly in their writing. Be sure to ask your scholar all about the fun and learning that took place during our grammar lessons this week!

Neat Hands

First graders have been having a great time practicing handwriting this week! Scholars worked carefully on writing their first and last names, focusing on neatness, spacing, and forming letters correctly while using their very best handwriting. In our workbook, we spent extra time learning and practicing the letters f, q, x, and z, writing each one in both uppercase and lowercase. Scholars also used these letters to create sentences, making sure their writing was clear and easy to read. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they take pride in their handwriting and continue strengthening this important skill.
