Warm Weather Brings Warm Feelings
With spring in full swing and summer’s heat just around the corner, these warmer days have everyone—myself included—thinking about fun times outside. This weather is what truly makes Charleston such a special place to live, allowing us to experience so many different experiences in such a small area. This weather also brings an end of school fever, with EVERYONE looking forward to the summer holiday. With that, it is important to remind ourselves that though we are nearing the finish line, it is important to remember how much we must still accomplish before we get there. From ERB testing, to class trips, Field Day to graduation and everything in between, this year is far from over and keeping our focus through it all has never been as important as it is now. So as we start to wrap up the year, let’s make sure we do not lose focus on all we are trying to accomplish, so we can truly enjoy the summer break!

Math:
This week, 7th graders applied the laws of exponents to scientific notation to help us write large and small numbers in a more efficient way – which will carry over into some of their recent science units! Next week, we’ll review for and take our Unit 7 test on Tuesday before diving into Unit 8 in which we derive, practice, and apply the Pythagorean Theorem.
ELA:
7th grade readers continued reading The Book Thief this week. We sketched the intensely visual pieces of the novel and continued to track how the author weaves history with multiple storylines. Please be reminded that their journal entries for this novel will be due April 25th. Students also took an open-note grammar test on Friday, April 11th. They did such a lovely job presenting their sonnets at Spread the Word. Bravo, again, to our poets!
Next week, 7th graders will continue reading and responding to The Book Thief. Please be reminded that their journal response pages will be due by April 25th. Having completed grammar and vocab for the year, we will begin ERB practice work during those times.
Social Studies:
Seventh graders are now getting ready for their final test on Antebellum America next Wednesday, the 16th. The study guides have been given out and can also be found on Google Classroom. They have also been working on their research papers. I am truly impressed with how quickly they have picked up how to research and outline a historical paper. We will continue with this next week as well.
Science:
Seventh graders explored density this week! Teacher cadet, Miss Maya Bundy, a Cooper alumni, taught the class about density and polarity. The students experimented with oil, food coloring, and water to see the properties of the substance and how they react. They observed energy transfer in a lab with different temperatures of water. The seventh graders also continued to read Ominivores’ Dilemma and worked on their family cookbook.
