New Year, New…?
Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone enjoyed their break and are ready to finish the school year strong! Here in middle school, we have already started talking about what a new year brings and what it could mean to them individually. I know that when I was younger, the idea of a resolution and bringing about great change always seemed overwhelming. Now, it is a time of reflection and finding small ways to improve that make a big difference. The middle school has done a fantastic job with choosing their “one word” for 2025, and I am impressed with how thoughtful they were about choosing them and how they hope to accomplish the word they chose throughout the year. I hope that, no matter what, you and your family are using this time to find happiness and make positive changes in your lives. May 2025 be an opportunity to look back a year from now and celebrate all that you’ve achieved!

Math:
This week, 7th graders dove right back into investigating equations and their slopes and solutions to two variable equations. Next week, we’ll take a quiz on January 13th over the first half of the unit (you should’ve received an email with more information), and then we’ll dive into systems of equations and different strategies to solve them.
ELA:
7th grade returned from break diving right back into realistic fiction writing. We began placing our previously developed characters into carefully crafted plots and finished first drafts with confidence. 7th grade also picked back up in grammar study, looking at adverbs, misplaced modifiers, and interjections. Our test is planned for 1/16.
Next week, writers will revise our stories and explore alternate endings. Be sure to begin studying now for next Thursday’s test!
Social Studies:
Seventh grade has begun its next unit on Antebellum America. This unit will be a longer unit which covers 1800-1850 in the United States. We began with an introduction to the time and are moving into learning about the similarities and differences between the northern and southern states during this time period. Next week will discuss the Constitution and its impact on the division between them and also start to look at the battle to end slavery beginning in 1808.
Science:
Seventh graders learned about population density, carrying capacity, and population growth this week. They considered how food, water, shelter, and mates impact all populations of species. They researched and calculated the population density of highly populated areas and low-populated areas to visualize the amount of people in a certain area. The seventh graders also presented their Ecosystem Projects. We learned about the abiotic factors and biotic factors that make each local ecosystem unique. Next week, they will delve into photosynthesis and plants that have impacted history.
Important Dates:
January 20- MLK Day, no school
January 29- 100th day of school
