7th Newsletter

It’s the final countdown!

Now that we are moving into the final trimester, it is time to start looking ahead to all the wonderful things going on here at The Cooper School. Each month has so much going on not only here, but I am sure for you at home as well. From the Gala to class trips, this trimester is going to fly by, so we need to make sure we keep our eye on the prize, which is finishing the school year strong. One of the best ways we can ensure that this school year ends on a positive note is keeping up communication, and ensuring that every student knows what they need to accomplish. I remember this time as a middle schooler, with projects, sports and trips and something always slipped through the cracks. With communication I am confident that everyone can finish the 2025 school year strong and go into summer break on a high note!

Math:

This week, 7th graders continued exploring cones and spheres and discovered what happens to the volume of different shapes when we manipulate one or more of the figures’ dimensions. Next week, we’ll review and take our unit 6 assessment which will be on Thursday March 13th, as well as take our ERB Milestone.

ELA:

7th grade Shakespeareans continued to study Macbeth and its tropes this week. Poets also began their sonnet work: developing topics, hitting syllabic requirements, and paying attention to rhyme schemes for the poems’ first halves. They also studied proofreading and punctuation carefully for their Grammar test they took Thursday (be sure to look for those grades).

Next week, 7th graders will finish Macbeth and consider its themes. They will aim to also finish their sonnets with a heavy focus on clever uses of figurative language in the third quatrain. We will begin a new vocabulary study with a test planned for 3/20.

Social Studies:

Seventh grade continued to work on their class debate on the 13th Amendment. It is a difficult project they are handling well and I am proud of how hard they are working. Once this is done we will watch the movie Lincoln which shows this in more detail. After, we will finish Antebellum America and then move into the reconstruction period of the Civil War.

Science:

Seventh graders wrapped up their science fair projects beautifully this week! I was very proud of the finished products! They should have a copy of their report shared to their personal emails. They can refer to their report when they need it for high school. When we return back to school on Monday, we will begin our new unit on Chemistry.
