It’s the final countdown!

Now that we are moving into the final trimester, it is time to start looking ahead to all the wonderful things going on here at The Cooper School. Each month has so much going on not only here, but I am sure for you at home as well. From the Gala to class trips, this trimester is going to fly by, so we need to make sure we keep our eye on the prize, which is finishing the school year strong. One of the best ways we can ensure that this school year ends on a positive note is keeping up communication, and ensuring that every student knows what they need to accomplish. I remember this time as a middle schooler, with projects, sports and trips and something always slipped through the cracks. With communication I am confident that everyone can finish the 2025 school year strong and go into summer break on a high note!

Math:

This week in Algebra 1, we took our unit 6 test, and then we began unit 7 (our last unit!!!!) by diving deeper into quadratic exploration. Next week, we’ll explore more about the quadratic equation (cue the song – ask your 8th grader they’ll know it) to help us rewrite quadratic expressions.

ELA:

8th grade Shakespeareans continued Hamlet this week, doing close studies of the original language. They also began sonnet work – developing the 1st and 2nd quatrains of the poem. We tested our punctuation and proofreading skills Thursday – so be sure to look out for that test.

Next week, 8th grade will continue Hamlet, studying various film and stage adaptations of the ‘to be or not to be’ soliloquy.  Poets will also finish their sonnets – keeping figurative language and the ‘volta’ of the third quatrain in mind. We will start a new vocabulary study with a test planned for 3/20.

Social Studies:

The eighth graders worked more with Imperialism and how European nations took over most of the world with this ideal during the 1800’s. This will lead into their research paper with us in which they will choose a cause and effect topic that relates to a subject area we have covered this year as a class.

Science:

Eighth graders wrapped up their science fair projects beautifully this week! I was very proud of the finished products! They should have a copy of their report shared to their personal emails. They can refer to their report when they need it next year for freshmen Biology. When we return back to school on Monday, we will begin our new unit on Heredity.
