THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!

With only one week of school left before we go on break, I am sure everyone is counting down the days until they can relax and enjoy time with their friends and family. Everyone looks forward to this time to be able to enjoy the holiday season and look back and reflect on the year. I look forward to next year, turning the page to 2025 and being able to continue on with a great school year. During this time, I hope everyone is safe in their travels and truly enjoys these two weeks. With only one week of school left, the countdown has definitely begun in middle school and we all look forward to a wonderful end to 2024 and a festive school week to end the year!

Math:

This week in Algebra 1, we explored inverse functions and began wrapping up this first unit about functions. Next week, we take our unit 4 test on Tuesday, then we’ll begin our unit on exponential functions by analyzing patterns of growth and decay.

ELA:

8th grade readers finished To Kill a Mockingbird this week and analyzed the film adaptation. They also completed and published their archetype magazine spreads, now available in the middle school library! Students also took a test today, so be sure to inquire for their grades.

Next week, we will transition to a literary essay unit in which we analyze our reading of To Kill a Mockingbird. Students will also begin a grammar unit, but will not be tested until well after Winter Break on 1/15.

Social Studies:

The eighth graders took their nationalism test this week and will begin a mini unit on the ideas of Nationalism and some of the negative consequences it has and how it was a driving factor towards WW1. On our last day together, we will be doing a fun holiday themed event together in class as we wrap up 2024.

Science:

Eighth graders learned about the parts of a wave this week. They modeled transverse waves and longitudinal waves using slinkys. They moved the slinkys in different directions to observe the amplitude, nodes, crests, troughs, and wavelengths. They also learned how to calculate speed of a wave using frequency and size of the wavelength. Next week, they will learn about ocean waves and energy.

Important Dates:

December 20 – Holiday Extravaganza & PJ Day (½ Day – 11:30 Dismissal)

December 21-January 6 – Winter Break (return on Tuesday, January 7)
