A Beautiful Week in Second Grade!

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Second Grade’s Bird Study Presentation! We are so proud of the hard work these students have put into their project. From writing persuasive essays, researching their bird, typing their words into the computer, learning excellent computer skills, and practicing their presentation skills, we are blown away by our students! Parents, you will be receiving your students’ PowerPoint presentations for them to share with friends and family. Thank you again for showing your support for this amazing class!

Birds of Prey

Second graders celebrated their hard work by taking a field trip to the Birds of Prey Center. As a class, we got the amazing opportunity to get up close to many different species of birds. We learned a lot and even wowed the staff by being able to answer lots of questions about our birds. We enjoyed viewing the bird flight show and were wowed to see the birds fly right through the crowd and reenact how they catch their prey. We also enjoyed walking around and looking at many other birds we did not research, and seeing eggs, nests being made, and even babies!

Realistic Fiction Stories

This week, students worked hard to complete their realistic fiction stories. Using their planning sheets, students made sure to include three well-developed events that were built around a clear problem and solution while adding strong details to make their stories more engaging for readers. Throughout the week, students also learned the importance of adding dialogue to make characters and events come alive. We practiced how to properly write dialogue by using quotation marks and correct punctuation. After completing their stories, students wrote conclusions that wrapped up their narratives and created inviting titles and creative covers to entice others to read their work. Students are excited to share their finished realistic fiction stories with their peers next week!
