Exploring The Magic Paintbrush
In reading, we began The Magic Paintbrush by Lawrence Yep, a beautifully written story that ties into our Asia study. The book tells the tale of Steve, who receives a paintbrush with the power to bring anything he paints to life. As we read, we’ve been discussing themes of kindness, responsibility, and using our gifts for good. Students also had the chance to imagine what they would create if they had a magic paintbrush, which sparked some incredible ideas and thoughtful discussions. This book connects to our Asia study not only through its setting and cultural elements but also by helping us explore traditional folktales.

Understanding Fractions
In math, our mathematicians have been working on equivalent fractions using number lines and models. By visualizing fractions in different ways, they are building a deeper understanding of how fractions relate to one another. As they become more comfortable with this concept, they are getting ready to take the next step: comparing non-equivalent fractions. Through hands-on activities and discussions, they are developing strategies to recognize fraction sizes and make meaningful comparisons.

Asia Presentation Preparations
Excitement is building as we prepare for our Asia Presentation next Thursday! Students are putting the finishing touches on their speeches, practicing how to confidently share what they’ve learned with parents and guests. As a class, we are also working on a Cooper School Culture Tree, a collaborative project that represents the values and traditions that shape our school community. Additionally, students are learning how to write Japanese numbers, adding another meaningful layer to their exploration of Asian cultures. We can’t wait to share all of their hard work next week!
