One Word
Each year at The Cooper School we forgo resolutions and instead help students choose “One Word” to focus on for the year. The “One Word” choice allows you to pick a word that can be applied to many aspects of life and be used as a guide for the year. It sets the intention for actions, thoughts, and interactions. First Graders have done a wonderful job of brainstorming words and choosing “One Word” that has meaning to them. They have explained why they chose their word and how it can apply to many aspects of their lives. Ask your child what word they chose.
Mapping the World
In Social Studies, we began our study of the continent of Australia! In this important study, students will learn about the different parts of a biome. Scholars will dig deeper into biomes and learn all about the biomes of Australia, such as deserts, grasslands, forests, wetlands, and tropical forests.
Centers
Scholars were happy to return and do centers this week. Scholars got to enjoy center bags which consisted of brain flakes, stick dot puzzles, and building straws. First graders were able to use pipe cleaners to make heart words. We also were able to use pattern blocks and building blocks to draw and play with. Ask your scholar what their favorite center was this week!
