A week of Fun in First Grade !

Math Fun

This week our mathematicians have been focusing on adding and subtracting within 20. Scholars sorted through expression cards and put them into groups based on ones they knew quickly and others they could work on. First graders also have been doing daily math sprints to work on their math expression fluency! We are loving this new math unit!

Cypress Garden

On Wednesday, to finish our Insect study, first graders took a field trip to Cypress Gardens. Scholars were ecstatic to go on a self-guided tour. Students got the opportunity to investigate the Butterfly House, Swamparium, and Nature Trail to witness and talk about the animals’ habitats. We finished off our field trip with a boat ride, lunch and some fun on the playground. Excitement was in the air and we had so much fun exploring wildlife.

Community

This week we started a new social studies unit all about community. Scholars talked about different types of communities (rural, suburban, urban). First graders learned about community helpers such as teachers, police, farmers, doctors and so many more! We are loving this unit so much so far!
