Valentine’s Day
This week we celebrated Valentine’s Day on Friday and it was a beautiful celebration of love and friendship. Students had the opportunity to distribute their compliment books and read all the wonderful things that were written on the compliments they received. We also loved eating all the sweet treats at our bake sale!
Reading
In Reading, we continued our study of Mem Fox and the craft moves she uses in her writing. Students are becoming experts in identifying examples of onomatopoeia, repetition, dialogue, alliteration, and echo lines. They have also been able to sort her books into books that feature Australia and those that do not.
Writing
This week in writing scholars have been working on their opinion writing. First graders brainstormed topics they wanted to give an opinion about and why they think it is better. Scholars gave views about books, movies, restaurants, and games. We can’t wait to dig deeper into this unit!
