Magnolia Gardens
During our time at Magnolia Gardens, second graders were allowed to observe many different birds in their natural habitat. Second graders used binoculars to spot birds of prey, song birds, water birds, and other animals. Students stayed very quiet during our walk on the trail to listen for birds and try to locate and identify each bird they heard! Second Graders, highlights of our Magnolia Gardens field trip were spotting baby egrets, watching a blue heron fly, observing mallard ducks, seeing a snapping turtle, and spotting many alligators!
Hello Multiplication
Second graders are continuing to work with even and odd numbers and sorting them accordingly. This week, students practiced creating different arrays of a set number of objects. This was challenging because odd numbers usually leave one leftover when forming pairs, but this week, students were asked to build an array with no leftovers. Students had to find the best way to build an array with numbers 1-25. After building an array, students learned how to identify rows and columns. Second graders learned that when you take one column and multiply it by one row, you get the sum of the array. Second graders are very excited to be learning about multiplication!
Earth Day
Second graders had a wonderful time celebrating Earth Day! We spent our morning discussing simple, meaningful ways we can help care for our planet, from reducing waste to being mindful of our environment. Students then took their learning outside by planting in our outdoor garden and helping pick up trash around the school. It was a hands-on and rewarding day that encouraged our class to be thoughtful caretakers of the Earth. It was extra magical to end Earth Day with our Cooper School community coming together to celebrate Art Night! Amazing job to all of our creative artists, and thank you to everyone who was able to come out to support!
