Bee Keeper is Here
On Tuesday, our class had a very special guest! We were honored to welcome Mr. Patrick from Swamp To Sea Honey Bees, who shared his incredible knowledge about bees with us. Students learned all about the structure of a beehive, the social roles within a colony, and the fascinating life cycle of bees. One of the most exciting parts of the visit was getting to observe our very own bee colony, which lives right here in the fourth-grade classroom! Scholars had the chance to see the Queen Bee up close, along with her busy worker bees in action.Be sure to ask your scholar what they learned, they have a lot to share!

Nonfiction In Action
This week in reading we began our nonfiction unit! To introduce nonfiction books and text features, students played “Pass the Book” and practiced locating headings, tables of contents, captions, indexes, and glossaries! First graders are so excited to grow their brains on so many different topics!

Bugs Everywhere
This week, we dove even deeper into our insect study, and our scholars couldn’t have been more excited! Each student had the opportunity to choose an insect they are curious about, with selections ranging from moths and butterflies to cicadas and many more fascinating creatures. Over the next few weeks, scholars will be researching their chosen insect, learning about its life cycle, habitat, and unique characteristics. The goal is for each child to become an “expert” on their insect and share their knowledge with others. We can already see the excitement building as our first graders begin their research journey, and we can’t wait to showcase all that they discover with you soon!
