We hope everyone has a spooktacular Halloween weekend! Thank you again for celebrating your second graders with us at their Polar Biome and Inuit Study Presentation!
Measuring Kings and Queens!
Second graders are kings and queens of measurement strategies! We have built on our measurement skills, which includes learning new units of measure and how to measure with a torn tape. We have been practicing measuring in centimeters, inches, feet and meters. Students know when to use the correct unit of measure. For example, if we are measuring an eraser we would use centimeters, but if we were measuring a snake we would use feet! Students have also been exploring how to measure with torn tape. A torn tape measure does not start at zero, but second graders know how to create and solve an equation to find the correct measurement. Second graders have enjoyed the challenge of finding different things in our classroom to measure and compare with friends.
Too Cute to Spook!
Things are getting spooky at The Cooper School! Second graders have been enjoying all things halloween this week! During centers, students have decorated our classroom with colorful ghosts that hang from our classroom ceiling, completed fun crossword puzzles, and designed symmetrical pumpkins using graph paper. Second graders also came up with the fun idea to ‘BOO’ other classrooms. We cut out pumpkins, bats and ghosts and then second graders wrote sweet Halloween themed love notes and we ‘BOOed’ the first grade! This will be completed throughout the lower school and we cannot wait to get ‘BOOed’ back!
