Conferences, Cluster & Teen Numbers !!!

Parent Teacher Conferences ♥

We would like to thank all of the parents for joining us this week for Parent/Teacher Conferences. This was a wonderful way to have a face-to-face with parents and learn more about your student. This meeting gives us a chance to brag about all the wonderful things your child does each day at school. The home-school connection is important to the overall success of each child and we are so grateful to be a part of your child’s education.

Clusters

We had another wonderful Cooper Clusters gathering this week! Scholars were thrilled to enjoy pizza and spend time with friends from different grades. During this meeting, each cluster worked together to create a colorful poster for our Cooper School Food Drive. Each group was assigned a specific category of items that are often needed at food banks and community donation centers. We can’t wait to see all the generosity our school community shares!

Teen Numbers!

This week, first-grade mathematicians are taking a closer look at teen numbers, which are composed of one group of 10 and some ones. To grasp this concept, we use tools such as double 10-frames and counters to construct numbers like 13 as 1 ten and 3 ones. This approach helps them in understanding place value and comparing numbers. These lessons will connect teen numbers to addition so they can apply this understanding to story problems. Through hands-on investigations, they developed a deeper understanding and observed the pattern of a complete 10-frame, where only the number of counters in the second 10-frame changes.
