Reading & Writing Poetry
The time has come for Second graders to learn all things poetry. This week, we introduced poetry to the class. Students have begun looking at and listening to different poetic structures. They are using their prior knowledge and applying and expanding their poetry skills. They will use the information they are reading and learning more about, and apply it to their writing skills. We can’t believe we are already nearing the end of the year and beginning preparation for our annual poetry presentation, Pass It On. Second graders are so excited to begin our poetry study and start diving into different poetry books!
We are Engineers!
We were architects for Cooper Village, and now we are engineers! This week, we began our new science unit, properties of materials. Our goal for this unit is to become engineers and experiment with different materials and mixtures to make glue! This week, we learned what an engineer is, what an investigation is, how to make a prediction, and began learning about different types of materials. As a class, we discussed why some materials are better than others to create different objects and what would happen if we used the wrong materials. Second graders are excited to learn all about properties of materials and begin their glue-making experiments!
Celebrating Self-Assessments!
Second graders WOWED us during their self-assessments. We loved watching students shine on themselves and show off all their hard work to their loved ones! We enjoyed seeing students’ confidence grow throughout the process and looking back at all they have accomplished. We enjoyed celebrating finishing self-assessments with a field trip to watch Charleston Stage perform Dragons Love Tacos. This is a popular book in our class, and we couldn’t wait to watch it come to life after our visit from our drama friends last week. Students were full of smiles and laughter during the performance and had a blast with their classmates!
