The Power of Voting
This week, Kindergarteners talked all about the importance of voting! Students learned a bit about a presidential election and how the voting process works. We had so much fun experimenting with our voting booths, allowing Kindergarteners to vote on some of the things they know most about. First, students voted on their favorite book series: Frog and Toad or Jenny Linksy. Jenny Linsky won by a landslide! The morning of Election Day, Kindergarteners voted on a book character to become the next President of The Cooper School. Madeline won (with Captain Underpants and Mr. Putter right behind her.) Next, students used the privacy of our classroom booths to vote for their favorite shape. Circle beat out triangle and rectangle!
Quilting
Students studied quilts this week to analyze all of the shapes we could find in them. Kindergarteners loved looking through all the patterns! After investigating, students collaged their own quilts using construction paper cut into various shapes. They turned out so beautifully that we had to hang them up in our window! We are so proud of our little quilters.
Change Makers
Kindergarteners had the honor this week to get a preview of Third Grade’s Changemakers Presentation. Third Graders visited our classroom this week for an opportunity to practice their speech. Third Graders have been studying people in history who have identified problems and then worked to solve them. We learned so much about so many different changemakers in history from Dolly Parton to Barack Obama!
