Drama, Read all about it !
This week, our first-grade scholars were thrilled to welcome Charleston Stage for a special in-school drama experience! Just ahead of our exciting field trip next week to see the play “Dragons Love Tacos,” students got a sneak peek into the world of theater. Our young actors had a blast playing fun drama games, practicing their actor focus and actor voices, and discovering new tools to add to their actor toolboxes. It was a day full of creativity, laughter, and imagination! Be sure to ask your scholar all about their favorite drama activities, they have lots of stories to share!

Self Assessment
This week, our scholars have been putting in so much effort as they prepare their self-assessment portfolios! They are looking forward to welcoming you on March 2nd & 3rd to show you everything they’ve accomplished.First graders have been creating their own math problems, practicing fluency with their “just right” books, double-checking their spelling, and taking meaningful time to reflect on their progress. They’ve thoughtfully considered how they’ve grown, what goals they’re still working toward, the achievements they’re most proud of, and the challenges that helped them grow stronger as learners. We are incredibly proud of the ownership and maturity our First Graders are showing. They have truly stepped up and taken responsibility for their learning. We are so excited for you to see their growth at our self-assessment conferences!
Math Rules
This week in math, our scholars have been diving deep into adding two-digit numbers, and they are rising to the challenge! As the numbers get bigger, students are learning how to confidently break apart each number into tens and ones to make their thinking clear and organized. Scholars are also doing an amazing job showing their thinking in multiple ways. They are drawing quick pictures, using place value blocks, writing number sentences, and even explaining their strategies in words. In addition, students have been practicing matching equations to the correct drawings. We are absolutely loving this math unit so far! The growth, perseverance, and excitement our first graders are showing each day has been incredible to watch.
