Thursday night, we hosted an information session for rising middle schoolers, and I truly wish everyone could have been there. As someone who has experienced this community both as a parent and now from the “inside,” I can honestly say it feels even more magical than I first realized.
The middle school teachers know your children so well. I’ve been in several schools, and I’ve never seen teacher-student relationships as strong and intentional as they are here. Hearing from parents, teachers, and Ms. Riley last night only reaffirmed that my own children are exactly where they’re meant to be. I’m so excited for them to continue experiencing the magic of Cooper Middle — something I know you already appreciate!

ELA: This week in 8th grade, we finished our fantasy and folk lore novel study. Readers are encouraged to request the next book in our Six Crimson Cranes series, and we will be happy to get them a copy at school since many of them enjoyed the story! 8th grade presented in-depth and fascinating facts within their culture and folklore portfolios, as well.
Next week, 8th grade has a vocabulary test on 2/26. Be sure to start studying now! We will start our Shakespeare and sonnets unit, as well, diving straight into Hamlet!
Science: This week in Science, 8th graders revised their experimental methods and began drafting the background research for their Science Fair projects. Through revision and feedback, students strengthened their plans and deepened their understanding of the scientific concepts connected to their questions.
Next week, students will create detailed plans to conduct their investigations and continue refining their background research, building clarity and confidence as they move from ideas to action in their independent inquiry.
Social Studies: Eighth grade has continued our work on WW1 and began to learn about the United States entering the war in 1917. They have also begun working on a project for Black History month. Each student chose an individual who contributed to our country and helped make the world a better place! They are creating a poster on them with the information they researched. Next week we will continue with both areas of study and start preparing for our self assessment project.
Math: This week in math, 8th graders continued their exploration with circles in triangles to help us analyze part to whole ratios along with more arcs and radii. Next week, we’ll wrap up our unit with more ways to measure and use radians in circles. They’ll receive their study guide for this unit next week, as well!
