This was an exciting week for us! From diving into science projects, to field trips to Hampton Park, to a few harmless pranks (like sending the entire 7th grade to Ms. Riley!), it was a week full of energy and fun and learning. Plenty of hugs and “see you laters” were shared as we head into the break.
I hope next week brings lots of rest, laughter, and quality time with family. We look forward to seeing everyone back in a week!

ELA: 8th graders began investigating topics this week for our class newspaper! Topics ranged from generational controversies, to local infrastructure issues, to gender problems and more! We learned the value of having both a diversity and high volume of sources as we began compiling source lists for our research. 8th grade also practiced punctuation, handwriting, and spelling with dictation exercises. We plan to test these skills after break on 4/17.
After break, 8th grade will continue researching, while moving towards an outline of their investigative piece! We’ll also do lots of grammar review so they are prepared for their dictation test.
Science: This week in science, 8th grade explored the 1 bone, 2 bone, many bones pattern archeologists find in many fossils. They followed that pattern from ancient organisms all the way to themselves. Students dissected an owl pellet and put together bones mimicking how archaeologists put together bones from rocks. After Spring Break, students will begin to explore heredity and the process of passing down genetic information.
Social Studies: We have continued learning about the twenty years that separate the two world wars. This week we looked at how Italy and Germany turned to Facism in this time period because of the struggles facing those countries. After break we will look at the Japanese empire and their role, getting ready to start WW2. Have a good break!
Math: This week in math, the 8th graders wrapped up their final unit on probability with their test on Thursday. We spent a lot of this week discussing conditional probability, and independent and dependent events. When we return from Spring Break, we’ll dive into our first high school prep review week – and we’ll begin with reviewing multi digit, decimal, and fraction operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
