Going into May, it is amazing to see just how fast this year has gone by! With the nice weather fast approaching and the end of the year on the horizon, I always take time at this point of the school year to look back and think of all we have accomplished. The middle school has done so much and each grade has been able to put their own stamp on this school year. We all enjoy this time where we start to wrap up units, tests and projects and even ERB testing, so we can focus on the fun things like class trips, field day and the signing of year books! I hope for the end of the year we can all look back and reflect on just how magical this year was and I hope the students always remember the friendships and memories they have been able to make!

ELA: This week in ELA, 8th graders worked hard on rough drafts and revisions of investigative articles. Many received helpful answers to their interview questions from local experts over email, incorporating these responses into their pieces. Students tested vocabulary on Thursday and will have grades in blue take home folders.
Next week, 8th grade will publish final edits according to feedback and we will have an 8th grade investigative newspaper to show off to the community! We will take part in an intensive year end review of grammar and vocab concepts next.
Science: This week in science 8th graders finalized their science fair reports and started their project boards. Next week they will put the finishing touches on their boards and practice their speeches in preparation for the science fair on Friday.
Social Studies: 8th grade is finishing WW2 and will be taking their test next week. This is our last unit of study for the year before their final exam. We also did work on our research papers! Next week we will continue with the papers, diving deeper into how a historical paper is written and I will be working with them individually to give them guidance going forward.
Math: This week in math, the 8th graders reviewed linear functions – finding the slopes and intercepts, and graphing linear functions. This is a key concept in Algebra 1! Next week, we’re going to review some important statistics concepts – mean, median, MAD, IQR, box plots, histograms, etc. They’ll also likely have a unit on statistics in Algebra 1!
