Eighth Grade

It’s been a quiet and weird week on campus without 5th and 6th grade, and now that they’re back, 7th and 8th grade are off on their adventures. School trips were always some of my favorite experiences growing up. I still remember my 8th grade trip to DC and a high school trip that felt a lot like Jekyll. I always came home knowing a few classmates a little better, carrying great memories, and feeling even more excited about school. Hearing 5th and 6th graders share stories from their trips over the past few days has been so fun, and I know they’ve made memories that will last a lifetime.

Upcoming Dates:

  • May 15 – May 18:  DC 7th & 8th
  • May 22nd: Teacher Work Day (No School)
  • May 25th: Memorial Day (No School)
  • May 28th: 8th Grade Graduation (11:30am Dismissal)
  • May 29th: Field Day/Last Day of School (11:30am Dismissal)

ELA: After ERB testing this week, 8th graders enjoyed reading each other’s new articles and sharing their work with 7th graders. 8th grade leaders helped assist some lower school students with reading, while some even offered to read aloud to our little peers! We look forward to the DC trip and preparing for field day when we return next week!

Science: 8th graders crushed their ERB tests this week then headed off on their DC adventure! When they return next week, they will explore punnet squares and how evolution has led to genetic diversity.

Social Studies: After ERB testing, we continued working on our research papers. Next week we will finish them up – editing and working on creating a works cited page.

Math: I am so excited to hear all of the wonderful stories of the DC trip when the 8th graders return next week! I remember my middle school DC trip – and I still have so many fond memories! Next week, we’ll do some last few review things to help prepare them for Algebra 1, and work on preparing for field day!
