Environments and Survival

In Science this week third graders investigated how different environments can affect how easy or hard it is for organisms to meet their needs for survival. Students shared data and answered questions about yellow shelled snails vs. banded shelled snails survival in the same habitat over the past ten years. They were excited to share their findings!

Getting to Know You

Third grade readers have been getting to know characters better. First, they noticed what the main character in their own ‘just right’ book did and said. Then they thought deeper about what those actions could tell us about the character’s personality. We talked about how the details in a story can help us ‘grow big ideas’ about who we think the characters are. Readers know it’s important to be flexible with their predictions and gather more information to form a theory.

Wrapping up Before Break…

We are so proud of our students’ hard work up to the very end. Third grade successfully finished Unit 3 in Math, Addition and Subtraction within 1,000, with smiles and lots of pats on the back!

We also finished Gratitude Writing and can’t wait to share their beautiful books with you! It warmed our hearts to hear how appreciative the students are. They are thankful for kind hearts, the beauty of nature, friends, family, teachers, pets, homes, love, and of course relaxation!
