Field Trips and Guest Experts
Second grade had a very fun and busy week! Students’ week began with a sweet visit from our guest expert, Nurse Heath! She taught us why nurses are so important and how they help keep people in our community healthy and safe. Nurse Heath shared about her job, answered numerous thoughtful student questions, and demonstrated special tools nurses use—such as equipment to listen to our heartbeats and check how our bodies are functioning. Our students loved learning from a real nurse and are so thankful for her visit!
Later in the week, students took a bus trip and arrived at Fire Station 12. Firefighter Nathan and Joe shared why they love being firefighters and what a day in their lives looks like. Students enjoyed seeing firefighter Joe get dressed in all his gear and show us the importance of each item. Second Graders also enjoyed walking through the firetruck and learning all the tools a firetruck carries. We really loved visiting Fire Station 12 appreciate them taking time out of their day to be with us.
Visiting the fire department and learning from our nurse helps students understand how our community works. It also helps students learn why these helpers are important, so they can better support their Cooper Village job and care for their own community now and in the future.
All Shapes and Sizes
We are excited to have started a new math unit. This unit focuses on shapes, money, and time! This week, second graders learned all about shapes. Students learned what a triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, and hexagon are. Students enjoyed creating their own shapes and practiced measuring the sides to help them determine the type of shape it was. We are very excited about this unit!
