It’s been another fantastic week in Fourth Grade!
Science
It’s been a very exciting week of exploring the human body. Fourth graders were lucky enough to have a special guest and parent, Dr. Shelly Ozark, a neuroscientist, in our classroom. Not only did she explain the parts of our brains and how they function, but brought in a real sheep’s brain for us to dissect and investigate! Our class was fascinated by all the different pathways they have and how different parts of the brain control parts of our bodies.
Writing
This week, our 4th graders dove into the fascinating world of character development by exploring internal and external factors that shape a character’s journey. They analyzed how personal motivations and traits drive story arcs, enriching their understanding of realistic fiction structure. Through engaging activities and lively discussions, students are beginning to craft their own stories with well-rounded characters and dynamic plots.
SEL
In our first SEL unit, 4th graders have been focused on self-regulation. We touched on when and how to use self regulating techniques as well as brainstormed some breathing techniques. Our goal is to have tools to help manage our emotions, and stay on track both in and out of the classroom.
