Fourth Grade is Filling Buckets!

Math

This week in math, fourth graders are continuing to master their understanding of angles. They’ve been building on what they already know about acute, obtuse, and right angles, and they’re becoming more confident in identifying and measuring angles, both with a protractor and by using math strategies. One exciting new skill they’ve started practicing is solving for unknown angles. By using what they know about the total degrees in a straight line or around a point, students are learning how to find missing angle measurements like real mathematicians. It’s been great to see their problem-solving skills grow as they take on these more challenging concepts!

Reading

Fourth grade students have begun their final novel of the year, Holes! Students have begun reading and discussing the novel Holes by Louis Sachar. This story explores important themes and life lessons, as well as utilizes a unique double plotline. One point of view is set in the present day, following Stanley at Camp Green Lake. The other, in the past involving the Yelnats family history and the legend of Kissin’ Kate Barlow. Through writing about their thoughts and group discussion, students are learning to identify and understand literary elements such as flashbacks, foreshadowing, and symbolism, all while making meaningful connections between characters and events across time.

Specials & Filling Buckets!

This week, students have been working hard preparing for the spring choir concert that took place Thursday! Not only has the class been preparing for their performance all year, but students also created art for the show during their art special classes over the last few weeks. Similarly, as TCS students have begun testing, 4th graders took the opportunity to spread the love and write love notes to the third graders testing for the first time. We are so proud of our students for all of their hard work preparing for their concert, as well as spreading love and encouragement throughout our community! Thank you to all the family members and parents that were able to come support the class!
