Reading
Fourth graders have started a new reading unit this week! Students are diving into the world of mystery novels. The class has started a new read aloud book to have class discussions, as well as been separated into book clubs. Each group is reading their own mystery novel, this allows students to read independently and share their theories, observations and predictions in a group setting. This unit focuses on making predictions, reading thoughtfully to identify what the core mystery of the story is, as well as what role characters and narrators play and how they affect a plot. Fourth graders are already loving this unit and are eager to crack the case!

Science
Students have continued investigating what happened to Ergstown and how systems work. This week, students have been exploring the different parts of a system, and how their parts effect one another, as well as the system as a whole. Similarly, fourth graders have started identifying energy inputs and outputs. Fourth graders have identified how energy input in a system is transformed into output energy. As well as how during some conversions, energy is lost or wasted creating inefficient energy. Students have been building individual circuit systems including buzzers and fans, and comparing those outputs with the amount of energy it requires when both are in the same system. It was so fun to watch their understanding grow of the fans speed being slower or fast depending on the system it was included in!

Peace & Love!
This week students participated in a walk for peace in conjunction with 3rd graders! Inspired by the monks walking for peace to Washington D.C, and their changemaker project, students made signs and did a mindful walk in the name of inspiring peace in our communities and world. The TCS community also celebrated Valentines Day with our annual bake sale and exchanging compliment books as a class. It has truly been a week full of love for our community, and we could not be happier! A huge thank you to all the parents who came to support our fourth graders at both of these events this week! We love our TCS families!
